In the food industry, more and more producers of food and beverages (such as milk, juices, purees, fruits, tomato concentrates or purees, cubes, tomato purees and tropical fruits, soups and low-acid products) choose cold sterilization to avoid the use of refrigeration and preservatives, and not to overheat so as not to affect the quality of the product.

Filling packaging under completely aseptic conditions is the most critical link in food processing plants. At this stage, it is imperative to ensure that the entire plant is completely sterile sealed, otherwise the actual preservation of the product cannot be guaranteed.

Packaging food products in aseptic bags at ambient temperature involves the use of a special mechanical device that combines several elements in a single integrated production line. This integrated approach ensures microbiological safety throughout the process, from initial handling to containment.

The client contacted HAPOO, an industrial processing manufacturer of food machinery. Need to design a sterilization system for 200 liter aseptic food bag lid. Sterilization takes place in a 380 mm wide annular chamber, located inside the aseptic filling machine.

HAPOO needed to determine which spray nozzle would blow the sanitizer into the cavity in the optimum amount of time and time.

The lid is made of plastic and the entire filling operation takes place at room temperature. When disinfection is performed in the chamber, it may reach 90 °C and is carried out in a small sterilization chamber with hydroperoxide (33%-35%) through three spray nozzles at a rate of 8 ml/s.

The spraying of the nozzle and the closing operation of the cap are carried out in the chamber for 2 seconds.

The whole process starts with placing the jumbo buckets filled with empty 200 liter food bags on the rolling conveyor belt and pallet rotating wheels. They are then brought under the filling and closing machine. The lid and nozzle are welded to the bag inside the sterilization chamber. Once closed, the barrel is ready for transport.

HAPOO Solution: After some lab testing, HAPOO Technical Department recommends using three air-assisted spray nozzles.

In lab testing it was found that due to the geometry of the cavity and the length of the tubing, the nozzle needs to be held open for at least 1 second to evenly cover the cap surface.

Customer advantage: Under the conditions highlighted, 6.63 ml of sanitizing solution was consumed, a reduction of 17% compared to the previously used system.
